Long-Range Facility Planning, 8/1/23

Lake Geneva Schools continues to move forward with the long-range facility planning process over the summer months by analyzing the interior and exterior condition of the districts’ facilities, reviewing educational adequacy, and identifying potential maintenance needs.

Recent steps include the review of the Applied Population Lab (APL) report that was presented to both boards in July. Demographers at APL collected data to verify enrollment projections and assist with addressing facility and staffing needs of both districts. They analyze estimates and projections with detail by age, sex, household type or other variables. This will help the district with planning for any changing demographics, especially due to the wide geographic boundary in both districts.

Baird, the districts’ finance partner, presented to the boards in July on school finance including solutions for debt management, capital finance planning, bond election, credit rating, etc. all to support and meet the districts’ financial needs. Baird’s School Business Solutions are experienced with meeting the unique demands of school districts throughout Wisconsin.

The Lake Geneva Schools Facility Assessment will be completed by the end of summer. This assessment evaluates the condition of each building and operating system, as well as their suitability for students’ educational needs to align with the districts’ goals. CG Schmidt recently toured the buildings and grounds to verify the facilities assessment that was created by GROTH Design Group and reviewed the final engineering reports for the operating systems. Now that the overall condition is determined for each building component, CG Schmidt will confirm a cost figure based on upgrading or correcting the condition and the timeframe for addressing the item if it is urgent in nature, 2-5, 5-10, and 10+ years.

GROTH Design Group and district administration are currently verifying space programming and creating potential solutions to address both districts’ long-term needs.

“Our long-range facility planning is a transparent process, and we welcome and look forward to feedback from the community throughout our efforts. Students, staff, and community members will have multiple ways to engage from surveys to open houses and via the district website. Together we’ll identify the best possible environments for our teachers to educate and for our students to learn,” said Peter Wilson, Superintendent.
