October 23, 2017 — Lake Geneva Middle School is inviting the community to attend its annual Veteran’s Day celebration on Friday, November 10 at 9:30 am in the middle school gym.

The program will feature patriotic music performed by the school’s seventh and eighth grade orchestras and bands, directed by Mrs. Lauren Klement and Mrs. Amanda Krause. The combined seventh and eighth grade chorus, directed by Mrs. Kim May and accompanied by Mrs. Carol Berndt, will also perform. A highlight of the event will be the combined performance of “This is My Country.” The audience will be invited to participate in a sing along.

Colors will be posted by the Color Guard from Post 24 of The American Legion, located in Lake Geneva. Veterans who attend the program will be invited to “pass the microphone” to introduce themselves and announce when and where they served.

Following the assembly, community members or family members of students who are veterans, spouses of veterans, or widows of veterans are invited to attend a luncheon at 11:00 am in the middle school cafeteria. Lunch will be prepared and served by eighth graders from Mrs. Tara Borland’s family and consumer science class.  Custom placemats that honor veterans will be designed and provided by Central-Denison Elementary School students.

Veterans wishing to attend the luncheon should call the school to RSVP at 262-348-3000 by Wednesday, November 1.  The middle school is located at 600 Bloomfield Road in Lake Geneva.

“It’s a privilege to recognize our local veterans with our community Veteran’s Day program,” said Anne Heck, school principal.  “Our relationship with Post 24 of The American Legion has been extremely rewarding to our students and the Veterans.  We’re looking forward to honoring and celebrating our local heroes who have so bravely severed our country,” she said.

Star Center Elementary School, located at W1380 Lake Geneva Hwy, will host a Veteran’s Day breakfast and program starting at 9:00 a.m.  Eastview Elementary School, located at 535 Sage Street, will host an afternoon program starting at 2:00 p.m., which is followed by dessert.  Veterans wishing to attend the elementary school events are encouraged to RSVP to the appropriate school.  For Star Center, contact Patti Steffen at 262-348-7000, ext. 7305.  For Eastview, contact Karen Kramer at 262-348-6000, ext. 6101.
