
7th-grade science classes had a guest speaker on Monday, February 12th. Nurse Gerson a Community Outreach Educator from Aurora Health Care gave a presentation to the 7th-grade science classes to help us kick-start our new PLTW unit called Medical Detectives. She was joined by an intern, Ms. Hendricks. The students learned how to properly take blood pressure using blood pressure monitors and warning signs of stroke. They learned the acronym, B.E. F.A.S.T. for learning the 6 warning signs of stroke.
Balance = sudden loss of balance or coordination
Eyes = blurred or double vision or sudden, persistent vision trouble
Face = facial droop, uneven smile
Arms = arm numbness, weakness
Speech = slurred speech, difficulty speaking or understanding
Terrible Headache
